Class R - Home Learning - Wednesday 15th July

Good Morning Class R,

Happy Wednesday! Today's transition activity is thinking about 'spreading our wings' from Class R to Class 1. It's really helpful to get ready for a new class by thinking about the things that you enjoy learning, the things that you are good at and the things that you'd like to get better at. Here is a butterfly template for you to do:

Today is also the final day for children in school in the red bubble. I hope that you have all had a good few weeks back in school and have a great last day!

Please find below the weekly learning project. As always, please send your work and home learning into Class R's home learning email.

Class R - Home Learning - Tuesday 14th July

Good Morning Class R,

For today's activity I will making a memory picture of some of the things I have enjoyed in Class R this year. You could do the same! Have a think about some of the things we've done this year at school and talk about them with your grown ups. Then you could draw some pictures and write some sentences or key words to go with your memory.

Here are some reminders:

-Our Christmas play

-Our special Christmas party with Miss Sparkles

-Making vegetable soup and then tasting it outside in the chilly weather

-Our trip to Heanor library, getting library cards and choosing a book to take home

Please find below the weekly learning project. As always, please send your work and home learning into Class R's home learning email.

Class R - Home Learning - Monday 13th July

Good Morning Class R,

Happy Monday! I hope you have all enjoyed the weekend and the lovely sunshine that came with it.

This week is the final school week of the year! It's exciting but a little sad at the same time. Although it has been a very unusual year, you have worked so hard and we have lots of lovely memories of being together in Class R. This week our learning activities are all about getting ready to leave school for a few weeks and getting ready to be in Class 1.

Class R, Class 1, Class 2 - An Audience with Mrs Mason!

Class R, Class 1 and Class 2, as we can’t all get together for a special assembly like we usually would in the last week of term, I thought it would be lovely to get together online. So next Tuesday, please join us (via Zoom) to have a chat with me and to have a catch up with the rest of your class! (Both in and out of school.)

We will be emailing out the Zoom link for your class prior to each 'meeting', so please keep an eye on your inboxes!

See you Tuesday!

Mrs Mason 😊

Class R - Special Message

Class R, we thought you would like the opportunity to send a special message to your buddies to say thank you and goodbye!

Therefore it would be great if you could send in one photograph of yourself:

  1. holding up a special message for your buddy

Please email in to the usual receptionhomelearning@richardson.derbyshire.sch.uk today  so we can share these on the website next week for all your buddies to enjoy!

Class R - Home Learning - Friday 3rd July

Good Morning Class R,

It's Friday!

Do you remember in Autumn when we made soup at school? We chopped, peeled and sliced all of those delicious vegetables and put them into Mrs Evan's soup maker along with some other magical ingredients- water and stock! I remember Mr Trimbee coming into our classroom and wondering what smelled so good! For today's activity I'd like to set you a task of helping your grown ups at mealtime either today or over the weekend. Cooking can be so much fun and the best part is eating it!!! Enjoy!

Class R - Home Learning - Thursday 2nd July

Good Morning Class R,

Happy Thursday!

For today's activity I have been thinking about food miles. This is how far your food has had to travel before it reaches your plate! You can usually find where a food has come from by looking on the packaging. In my kitchen this is what I found:

My bananas have come from Costa Rica.

My pasta and kidney beans have come from Italy.

My tomato soup has come from England.

My waffles have come from Belgium.

Can you look in your kitchen and find out where your food has travelled from? How many foods have you found that come from our country? How many foods have you found which have travelled a long way?

Learning Project: Food, glorious food !

The theme for this week’s project learning is ‘Food!’ During lockdown we’ve enjoyed looking at the photographs of your home baking. We’ve seen special cakes for VE Day celebrations, scones and biscuits from both children and staff.
This week however, you will be learning about many different types of food not just baking.

Here are a few questions to get you thinking about this week's theme -talk with the people you live with to see if you can answer them! Or do you need to do some research ?

How many different foods can you name from the photograph above ?
Where does sushi originate from ?
How do strawberries grow ?
Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable? Why ?
How many vegetables can you name in 5 minutes ?
How many fruits can you name in 5 minutes?
How many varieties of apples can you find on the internet ?
Where does beef come from ?
What would you like to make in the kitchen if you had a choice ?
What is your favourite meal ?

The song below is from a show called ‘Oliver!’
We sang it to Mrs Annable when she retired last September so hope you can remember it and sing along ! It’s such a wonderful song and I love to hear you all singing it in our school hall ! See if you can remember any of the actions !

Food Glorious Food

Have fun learning this week !

During the assembly, The Duchess will say:

If you would like guidance or support with your child's mental health, or just to read that others are feeling just like you at these unprecedented times, then please register with these websites for ideas and suggestions: https://www.place2be.org.uk/about-us/our-team/our-royal-patron/ and https://www.mentallyhealthyschools.org.uk

Learning Project - Space and Beyond

Our theme for this week’s learning project is ‘Space’. It's an exciting time to think about space, on the 30th of May, Space X launched their first rocket into space with astronauts. It's the first time that Nasa astronauts have been sent to space on a rocket owned by the private company. The mission, Demo-2, launched from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on 30th May - the same launch pad used during the historic Apollo 11 Moon landings. After reaching orbit, astronauts Doug Hurley and Robert Behken decided to give their Crew Dragon spacecraft a name: "Endeavour", as a tribute to the first space shuttle each astronaut had flown aboard.

Here is a full video of the launch (it is very long, skip to 4 hours in to view the launch)

We hope you enjoy learning all about space this week.

Good Morning Reception,

Happy Friday! What a busy week with our musical theme. Hopefully learning about music this week may have inspired you to learn to play a musical instrument. There are so many different types of instruments that make very different sounds and are played in different ways. Here are some featured in this video from Maddie Moate. She visited the Cbeebies Proms and met some musicians from the orchestra. My favourite was listening to the woodwind players. You can see the children in this video have practised lots to get better and better. What would you like to play?

I hope you enjoyed the nursery rhymes and songs I shared yesterday. Today I've been thinking about how different types of music make me feel and act. When I am working or studying I like to listen to calm music but if I am exercising or cleaning the house I like to listen to faster music that makes me want to move quicker! Here are 2 different songs that I sometimes play. Can you guess which one I would move quickly to and which one I would be calm to?

Good Morning Reception,

I hope you are enjoying the musical theme this week. I remember when we were still at school and we learnt about different genres of music with Mrs Evans. We listened and talked about our favourite types of music and had a little dance too! This week whilst I have been doing my work I have been listening to my favourite songs. Which artists and bands do you like to listen to?

A special Friday assembly with Ant & Dec

Good morning to our whole Smalley community,

This week has been National 'Child Safety Week'.

During this time, where we are thinking of keeping all those we love and ourselves safe (even more than usual), and exploring all the feelings and emotions connected with this, we are pleased to announce a virtual assembly with Ant & Dec.

This morning, at 9.30am, please join us for an assembly where Primary school children across the UK can join Ant & Dec, David Williams and Sally from the NSPCC for a special assembly in partnership with the Department of Education.

The assembly will help children to understand the huge changes in their lives during the coronavirus pandemic and how important it is to speak about our feelings and thoughts - two things we can all safely share together at this time. Please click on the link to NSPCC website, which is where you will be able to follow the link and watch the assembly: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/our-services/working-with-schools/

Speak out. Stay safe. Virtual Assembly

Welcome to our virtual 'Speak out. Stay Safe.' assembly! This session will be led by the wonderful Sally from our Schools Service, and features special guest...

Children, every one of you are special to us and we love to help you to learn, celebrate your achievements and watch you grow.  Please use this video to join in with a song called 'It's Good to be me!' - here the two ladies use sign language as they sing the song, perhaps you could could learn it too.

Class R - Outdoor Learning 22nd May

Good morning Class R! What a busy week! I hope you have enjoyed outdoor week as much as I have enjoyed planning the activities for you all :-)

Last night when I was fetching my washing in, I made an interesting discovery! An insect has been very busy laying eggs on my clothes!

After some researching, we discovered that it was the eggs of a type of Shield Bug. It obviously thought my clothes were a perfect place to lay the eggs that will hatch into babies. I found it really interesting and wanted to find out more so I have done some reading- this is what I found!

  • Shield bugs are also called STINK bugs! Ew! This is because if they are disturbed or touched, they release a nasty smell!
  • The bugs can be seen lots in England and Wales but not so much in Scotland.
  • They are bright green in Spring and Summer but turns a brown colour in Autumn.
  • Adult shield bugs hibernate over Winter in grass or leaves and appear in May.
  • Females lay eggs in clusters (little groups) and the babies hatch. The babies are called nymphs. They don't have wings and they crawl between plants to feed on sap. Both adult and baby bugs suck sap from plants.
  • They turn into adults in September, just before they go into hibernation.

I hope you enjoyed my facts- I found them out by reading on the RSPB website.

For today's activity I wonder if you would like to find out about an insect that lays eggs. You could draw a picture, take a photo and find out some facts with your grown up. You could make a poster about your chosen bug!

Here are a few that lay eggs to get you started: butterfly, moth, ladybird, slugs, snails...

Have fun and keep your eyes looking for eggs in your garden!!!

Class R - Home Learning 21st May - OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY

Good morning Class R! I hope you are enjoying outdoor week so far!

Today is OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY 2020!

For us in Reception, we spend a lot of our time and learning outdoors, we are very lucky. Something that we do at school sometimes is build dens! Although this is a team activity and we would be working with our friends, I wondered today if you could work with your grown ups and siblings (if you have some) and build a cool den in your garden! Once your den is finished, you could take some books or toys in there and have a cosy, outdoor play and read!

When I was a little girl, I loved making dens with my brother and sister. We would use old bed sheets, blankets, cushions, pegs, chairs and my mum's washing line! But you can use whatever you can find! The possibilities are endless.

I hope you have lots of fun making a den! Send me some photos if you would like.

If you'd like to read more about OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY then visit here: https://outdoorclassroomday.org.uk/

Our Home Learning

Yesterday Ellis sent a photo of him and his brother Max. They hired the cricket pitches to go and play with their family. They are heading back there today as Ellis' Mummy said she needs some more practise :-). Great to see you all having fun outside!

Class R - Outdoor Learning 20th May WORLD BEE DAY!

Good morning everyone! What another beautiful day it is going to be!

Thank you for your messages of home learning photos. It's really lovely to see you all growing up too! Next time we meet you will all be taller!

Ellis completing Monday's activity. He foraged for things to make his wildlife area using his new wheelbarrow!

TODAY'S ACTIVITIES

Keeping fit, moving and having fun is so important at the moment and this is the time of year where we would be having our school PE outdoors. Today I would like you to play an outdoor sport, ride your bike, play a game or even invent your own outdoor game! (Remember to keep sun safe though and put some sun cream on, wear sunglasses and a hat). Let me know what you chose to do outside and send some photos if you'd like.

Today is also WORLD BEE DAY 2020!

This year the theme of World Bee Day is'SAVE THE BEES'. Bees are so important in keeping our world healthy and happy and we must protect them wherever we can. In my garden I have lots of flowers, plants and trees where the bees can collect pollen. I also have a few bee houses where the solitary bees (bees that live alone) lay their baby (larvae) and leave them there with some food for when they are ready to hatch. There are lots and lots of types of bees and not all bees sting. Solitary bees don't sting at all and most other bees will not sting if you are calm around them. So BEE careful!

I wonder if you have any areas in your gardens that the bees love?

Here is a colouring sheet you could do outside:

If you'd like to find out more about bees before you head outside to explore: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000fstf/lets-go-for-a-walk-series-1-7-bees-and-compost-walk

Class R - Outdoor Learning 19th May

Good morning! I hope you enjoyed the activity yesterday.

Ruby went exploring for creatures and critters and sent these photos of what she found!

Ruby's exploring

Mrs Evans loves being outdoors in her garden, finding places to walk in the local area and riding pillion on a classic Lambretta Rallymaster scooter.

TODAY'S ACTIVITY

Usually when we are in school we have lots of resources that we use when learning about numbers and counting, like posters, books, numberlines, flashcards or pictures. For outdoor week I'd like you to try and make some numbers and shapes using natural resources or things that you have found in the garden. Here are a few I have made to give you some ideas:

Class R - Outdoor Learning - 18th May

Good morning Class R! I hope you have all enjoyed the weekend, it seems the lovely weather is back again and it is going to be a glorious week ahead. Just in time for our outdoor learning week!

I have spent a lot of time in my garden this weekend, pulling up weeds and making sure there are lots of wild areas for the nature and wildlife to enjoy. It got me thinking about the different creatures that we find in our gardens, from tiny ants all the way to big foxes!

Today I would like you to see if you can find any creatures in your garden and take some photographs if you do. You could find out some facts about your creatures too. After you've had a look, maybe have a go at making a wildlife area in your garden with help from a grown up. You don't need to buy things to make wildlife areas- lots of things you can find in your garden or whilst out on a walk. Here are some examples of what you could make:

Lots of these are made with recycled materials so this makes them even better for the environment. Whatever you decide, remember to work with a grown up and be safe when you are using scissors and sharp objects. Please send me some photos of your finished wildlife areas! I would love to see them.

Mrs Mason’s Monday Morning Message

Good morning children. I do hope you and your families are all keeping well. I miss seeing each and every one of you in our school every day and especially your smiles and hearing you laugh, play and learn together on our playgrounds and in our classrooms.

You have probably heard on the news and from your parents that some of you will soon be able to start back to school and that lots of people are arguing about this! At the moment there is lots to talk about so that we can all feel safe but I will be writing to both you and your parents as soon as I have more details. Until I can do that I don’t want you to worry but to keep working hard at home and enjoying this lovely sunshine.

Due to the lovely weather our theme this week is  ‘All things Outdoors!’ We want you to spend as much time as possible learning outside. Your teachers have planned lots of exciting activities for you and your family to get involved in because we know that some of you learn far better when you are outdoors! Also this week it is ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’ and being outside, keeping fit and healthy also helps you to keep happy too!

During the past few weeks while we were only allowed out once a day for exercise I went to Shipley Park many times on my bike. It was so beautiful to hear the birds sing and watch the flowers grow, especially as it was so quiet while everyone was at home. I took lots of photographs to share with you ! I hope you enjoy looking at them on this week’s little film. See if you can spot somewhere you have been in our wonderful country park. I’m sure you will enjoy this week’s song too. Make sure you sing along …… just like in our Monday morning Assembly!

Monday Morning 18th May

The Great Smalley Bake Off - Week 2!

Once again you have amazed us with your baking skills! Thank you so much for all your efforts and sending in your photographs. Please continue to share your bakes over the next week using your class email, ready for another gallery next Friday.

Have a lovely weekend xx

Class R - Home Learning - 15th May

Good morning and happy Friday! The sun is shining again in time for the weekend.

Today is our last day of our VE Day learning. I hope you have enjoyed the activities. Here are some for you to try today:

Have a discussion with your grown up about the very first VE day. Here is some information:

Can you imagine what it would have felt like to celebrate? Today's activity for you to try is to plan a pretend VE party. Create an invitation. Who would you invite? What food would you make? What decorations would you make?

Class R - Home Learning - 14th May

Good morning Class R!

I hope you are all enjoying this weeks learning activities.

Here are some activities for you to try today:

  1. Creative- Create a memory pebble to commemorate VE day. If you have some paints and paintbrush you will just need to find a large pebble or stone. Maybe you could find one if you go for a walk. Here are some examples:

  1. In school we sing songs a lot using the 'Singing Hands' resource on YouTube so that we can learn some makaton sign language. Could you have a conversation today with your grown ups and think of all of the people who would have helped during the war? You could write these into a list and draw some pictures. Here is a song for you to sing too and learn some signs- we LOVE this one in school so hopefully it will bring some memories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_I2ysM0w0g
  2. Shapes- During the war, lots of nations had different flags. Have a look at some flags and see if you can spot shapes we have been learning in school.

Here are some super photos I have received of your home learning:

Toby's Spring Project

Toby and his family found a blackbird nest in their garden. He has been taking photos and making a book about what has been happening in the nest. It all began with the tiny eggs! Wow Toby- amazing learning, I hope you are very proud!

Georgia's Inspired Learning

Georgia has made an underwater scene this week as she really wanted to learn about the ocean. She also was inspired by something she saw on Cbeebies and wanted to make a frog! Well done Georgia, you are very creative indeed!

Mia's Kindness

Mia's mummy said: "We were talking about people who are struggling to get food at the moment so we came up with an idea to set a donation bucket outside, lots of our lovely neighbours have donated and it has made Mia smile so much seeing it fill up, she watches people from her window and knocks and waves to them as they go by, and we’re looking forward to donating it on Thursday." That's such a kind thing to do Mia- well done! Mia has also been fundraising with her big brother Oscar and has been learning about lots of wildlife- here is a bumblebee which they found in a blue tit nest box!

For Class R we have chosen to follow the new Oak National Academy resources created by teachers. Please follow this link to access today's learning: https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/reception/#subjects

Every day lessons are posted that are appropriate for Reception level teaching and learning. Please also feel free to continue using the BBC Class Clips and online learning. Please do not feel you have to do everything, we want to equip not overload.

Well done Class R for all of your learning this week. Keep up the good work :-)

Love from Miss Tulley

Class R - Home Learning - 13th May

Good morning :-)

To continue our VE day theme, here are some activities that you could try today:

  1. A fine motor cutting and folding activity- Download Simple WW2 Spitfire Glider Activity Paper Craft
  2. Recipe book for Wartime recipes. Talk to children about rations, and how certain foods weren't available or were limited. The recipes in this booklet include snacks, meals and desserts. When cooking, baking or preparing food with children, use as much language as possible. Encourage children to help measure, pour, read instructions, follow steps and lastly have fun! Download Wartime Recipe Booklet
  3. Colouring sheet for a creative activity - Download VE Day Colouring Page

Here are some photos of children's VE celebrations and other learning that they have been doing at home. Well done Class R- we are really proud of you for your hard work and resilience!

Alicia and Bella's VE celebrations

Joey and Isabella's super home learning!

Ruby's brilliant home learning!

Class R - Home Learning - 12th May

Hello Class R!

As part of our VE Day theme this week here are 2 activities for you to try today:

  1. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/bring-the-noise/ve-day-2020/zksjjhv    This is a great resource from BBC with a lesson plan for teaching a musical activity. It has guidance for doing the activity at home.
  2. In school we would be having lots of discussions with children during circle times and small groups about VE day. One thing we would discuss would be the courage and bravery of the people involved and how we could say thank you. One way that people are recognised is through medals. Can you design a medal for someone you know that should be recognised for hard work, bravery, courage or trying their best. Here is a template for your medal: Download Medal Template

Have fun and please send in your work if you'd like to share it on the school website :-)

I have had lots of emails from many of you showing me your super learning- thank you! This week I will be sharing the photos I have received so keep your eyes out for your work :-)

Ellis has shared photos of his bakes he made at Easter with his family- they look absolutely delicious!

Toby has made a VE day poster for the special celebrations, he looks very proud to share it!

Amelia has been working really hard on her maths- she has been looking at addition and number lines. She also went for a walk and visited Class R from a distance!

Thank you for your photos- I have some more to share so watch this space...

Love Miss Tulley xx

Mrs Mason's Monday Message

Our Assembly this Monday would be all about our 75th VE Day celebrations so I thought I would tell you about how I marked the occasion with my family.

I marked VE Day this year by entertaining our neighbours with music . We played ‘We’ll Meet Again‘ and ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’.

If you play an instrument perhaps you could entertain your neighbours on a Thursday evening when we all go outside to clap the NHS and all Key Workers?

Thankfully the weather was so warm and sunny that we were able to take our instruments outside and play from our front garden. We then enjoyed a picnic lunch on our front lawn and waved to all our neighbours as they sat on their gardens at a safe social distance!

It was lovely to see other people ,enjoy the lovely weather and mark this special day for our country.

Here is a link to a special song we enjoy singing in school in November when Year 6 deliver our special Remembrance Assembly. Have a listen and see if you can sing along.

Remember ,we are all still together under the same sky!

Home Learning - Get involved in VE Day 75 - 11th May

Home Learning - Get involved in VE Day 75 - 11th May

Friday 8 May marked VE Day and 75 years since the end of WWII. The country paid tribute to the service and sacrifice of the entire Second World War generation, from British, Commonwealth and Allied Forces to evacuees and those who served on the home front. As we face some of the most challenging times since the end of the Second World War, now more than ever, it is important to unite and remember their service to the nation, just as communities did 75 years ago.

There are many similarities between the struggles of the Second World War and what we are going through today. We look to our Second World War generation to learn from their experiences, and we continue our work to protect them from the threat we currently face.

At the end of the Second World War people were happy that the fighting had stopped. However, lots of things like food were still rationed. On VE Day itself lots of people held street parties, but they also remembered those who had still not returned from fighting and those who would never return.

While we can’t get together to have street parties due to the current situation, we would love you all to commemorate and celebrate – just as people did 75 years ago! Each day this week your class teachers will be posting photographs of how they are commemorating and ideas about how you might too! Please see below for details and examples and remember to send your photos to the class email address so that we can share them on our website!

VE Day Memories

Good morning everyone,

Today on this special day for many I wanted to share with you some history from my family.

Almost 74 years ago my Grandad received this letter from His Majesty King George VI, along with all of the other children in the country. The letter was sent to children with words of inspiration and encouragement after World War Two in Europe had finally ended. My Grandad would have been 6 years old and attended Grange Primary school in Long Eaton when he received the letter- meaning that he was born during the war and the first 6 years of his life would have been very different to children now.

The Great Smalley Bake Off

Wow! It seems lots of you have been busy baking since we saw you last. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing bakes! Here are a selection of some we received today, but remember you can send them in to your class email anytime and they will be included in our weekly 'Bake Off' Gallery.

Have a lovely long weekend in the sunshine everyone!

With Love From Us All xx

Class R - The Great Smalley Bake Off

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the week so far 😊

One of my favourite things to do is baking and I often bake for family and friends for special occasions. At the weekend I had a request to make a special birthday cake for my friend's daughter who was turning 3 years old! I took some photos as I was decorating it. I wonder if you can guess who the popular book character is before you see the finished cake...

..... Do you know who it is?

Look below for the answer!

Mrs Evans has also been busy in the kitchen!

If you have been busy baking please let us know, I would love to see your creations! Please email them to the Class R email.

Stay safe and keep smiling 😊

Love from Miss Tulley and Mrs Evans x

Home Learning - The Great Smalley Bake Off!

Thursday, 7th May 2020

For classes R,1,2,3,4,5 & 6

Good morning everyone and a very happy Thursday to you all!

Today's event: 'The Great Smalley Bake Off'

Lockdown has resulted in us all learning new things and practising different skills. Many children have been baking and making meals for their families. After chatting to children in school, Mrs Rodgers knows one family has been treated to a 'mean' chilli and naan bread! Yummy!

As part of The Great Smalley Bake Off, we would like to invite you to take photographs of your bakes and share your recipes so that others can be inspired. Hopefully we can find some 'Star Bakers'! We know flour is tricky to get hold of at the moment so be creative and just have fun!

Now if you haven't planned to bake today, then don't worry because this feature is not going to last just one day.  You can send your bakes and recipes in whenever you decide to bake and make between now and when we return to school. Please use your class email (see below) and we will put together a collage each week of our masterpieces.

Here are some to start you off: The Rodgers' Family Chocolate and Beetroot Brownie, Miss Lockley and her daughter's bread and Mrs Boole's family cake.

Look out on the school website today, as staff upload some more of their culinary delights!  We can't wait to see yours!

On your marks.... get set.....BAKE!

As you may all be aware, starting tomorrow, it is the 75th anniversary celebration of VE Day.

As we are all staying safe at home, there are ideas about having your own celebration at home to mark this significant date:

Will you be doing anything at your house children?  If you would like to, please see the attached family pack with some ideas for the next few days.  Please take some photographs of whatever you do, as next week our SPECIAL WEBSITE FEATURE will be all about the importance and significance of VE Day.

Wonderful Workspaces

Thank you for sending in your wonderful and creative workspace. Here they are;

Class R - Home Workstation

Hello everyone 😊

I have 2 spaces I like to do my work at home. One is the dining table and the other is my outdoor table. I love to work outside whenever I can (I'm often joined by a chicken or a cat!)

Where do you like to do your work? Send us your pictures if you'd like to 😊

I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

For Class R,1,2,3,4,5 & 6

Good morning everyone!

Today's event is to take and share a photograph of your workspace. During this time we have all had to get used to working away from our usual desks. Where are you working now? Do you have a desk in your room you like to work at, with a fancy gaming chair? Perhaps you like to work at the dining room table, with your other family members? It could even be that you have been taking the opportunity to work outside whilst the weather is nice? Please send a photo of your favourite place to learn to your class email (see below) and watch out for it to appear on the gallery.  Look out through the day, as staff share their workspaces. Please send all photos for this feature by 5pm today - we look forward to seeing a fantastic range of new learning spaces you have discovered!

Smalley Pets Corner!

We hope you enjoyed our theme for today's activity! We really enjoyed seeing your pets, thank you for sharing them with us! Here they are:

Here are Myla and Bella, who is 9 years old, enjoying the sun at Easter.

Here are Elizabeth and Mollie with their two pets Leo and Seamus.

Leo is a 5 year old Collie, who loves to go on walks, barking at the postman and playing with sticks and balls. Seamus is a 1 year old black Labrador. He was one on the 26th April and loves food, walks and following the girls' mum around.

This is Florence's cat, Ted -  he's so cute and fluffy!

This is Olly and his 'best one' Nova.  Olly's Mummy says that Nova has helped Olly tremendously through the lockdown period. Nova had to be super brave yesterday too as she had to have a broken tooth out at the vets!  Get well soon Nova.

Thank you again for taking part in the activity! Check back tomorrow to see the next activity!

Class R - Pets Corner

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying seeing our pet photos- I know I am 😊

Those of you who have been in my class at school will know I love animals and have a little collection at home! My parents have always had lots of pets which has meant that I've grown up with them and couldn't imagine life without them!

Firstly here are my hens! They are all Pekin Bantams which mean they are a small type of chicken and all have feathered feet and an extra toe on each foot! We started with 3- Nutmeg, Macy and Attila. Macy and Attila decided they wanted babies so we hatched some chicks underneath (you might remember me bringing them into school!).. we then kept some of these hens- Shirley and Leia.

Next are my 2 cats- Pepe and Elsa. They are brother and sister and we have had them since they were tiny babies. They turned 6 years old yesterday actually. They are very friendly and spend a lot of their time with us.

Here are the last of my pets. I have 2 English Spot rabbits called Skipper and Rico. They are nearly 5 years old. They are quite big bunny rabbits and need lots of exercise! The only way I can tell them apart is by the black splodge between their ears! Skipper's is longer than Rico's. I also have 2 cute guinea pigs which I got from a rescue in Wollaton. Their names are Bruce and JJ. Bruce is named after Bruce Bogtrotter as he was much bigger and greedier than his brother! JJ is named after a Houston Texans' NFL player (he can't play American football though!)

My final pet I'm sharing is not mine but I wish he was!! This is my parent's miniature Dachshund Reggie who joined our family last Spring. He often comes to stay and we take him for long walks and he likes to help in my garden. Did you know- 'Dachshund' is a German word which means 'badger dog'. The breed was used many years ago to go looking for badgers down badger holes. Perfect job for their long sausage body and strong digging paws! Reggie however loves to catch spiders in his garden and munches them! Yuck!

I hope you have enjoyed meeting my pets! I have already had some photos of your gorgeous pets sent to me, thank you! If you'd like your pets sharing on our website tomorrow please send them to the class R email 😊

Love from

Miss Tulley (and pets!) Xxx

Thank you so very much for all of the beautiful moments that you have shared with us today.

Please enjoy all of our gorgeous smiles - they are certainly spreading for miles!

Class R - Smalley Smiles!

Hello everyone!

For my 'What makes me smile' today I'd like to share with you all some special news. My partner, Sean and I, are going to become a Mummy and Daddy in Autumn!

I've had lots of smiles during lockdown but two things in particular that have made me smile even more are seeing our new baby on a special scan photo and hearing its heart beating for the first time!

Lots of love, Miss Tulley x

For Mrs Evans 'what makes me smile' she has shared with me a lovely photo of the walks she has been on to keep active. Mrs Evans said here is a picture smiling as she walks along the local Erewash canal in the sunshine. So far she has seen swans on their nests, moorhens and lots of wildflowers. Sounds beautiful!

Lots of love, Mrs Evans x

Let us know what has made you smile and send us a photo on the class R email. We look forward to seeing them! Stay safe everyone and keep smiling 😊

HOME LEARNING - Spreading Smalley Smiles for Miles!

Monday, 4th May 2020 - Star Wars Day!

For Class R,1,2,3,4,5 & 6

Good morning everyone and a very HAPPY MONDAY!  Did you know that yesterday was WORLD LAUGHTER DAY?! Please take a look at the World Laughter post to find out all about it.  The joke page will keep on running, so whenever you find a good one, please add it to the comment box!

Now this week, our daily posts are going to look slightly different, as we are having a special feature week, where we will be 'Spreading Smalley Smiles for Miles!'.  We are very lucky when we're in school every day, as we get to share a lot of facial expressions, including smiles, so we thought it would be really lovely to have the opportunity to share some of those beautiful faces on the school website this week.

Our very first gallery comes from the PYJAMARAMA event last Friday - thank you for all of the beautiful photographs that we received.

Today's event is to take and share a photograph of you doing something which is making you smile at the moment whilst you are safe at home - it could be bouncing on the trampoline, building a model, working on your Maths, eating your favourite meal, dancing.......the sky's the limit! Please send your photo to your class email (see below) and watch out for it to appear on the gallery.  Look out through the day, as staff share their smiles. Please send all photos for this feature by 5pm today - we can't wait to see your faces! All photos received after 5pm will still feature in the gallery but will be added later in the week.

Class R - 'Pyjamarama' reading!

Hi everyone!

Mrs Evans and I have been reading our favourite magazines today. My favourite is Gardeners' World as I really enjoy reading non-fiction. I love waiting for my magazine to arrive each month so I can find out the things that I can do in the garden. One of my cheeky chickens actually joined me when I was reading in the garden the other day! However Pepe the cat was too tired today to hear my reading! 😊

Mrs Evans has been enjoying reading a magazine too which is called 'Hitsville! The birth of Tamla Motown'. Mrs Evans said she enjoys this magazine as it one of her favourite types of music and she wants to find out more about the artists and where the genre all started.

Magazines are a wonderful thing to read and subscribe to as you have the excitement of waiting for the next issue to arrive! I wonder if any of you have magazine subscriptions? Let us know if you do 😊 and please send any photos into the class email of you reading a book or magazine!

Booktrust - Pyjamarama Reading Festival

Reading

Here are ways you can support with reading:

Collins have kindly opened access to their Big Cat Reading Scheme. You may recognise these books as they are the same your child brings home from school.

Using their digital library you can continue the reading your child has been working hard on since September. Do not hesitate to contact me through your class home learning email if you are unsure of the reading stage of your child. Follow this link to access the Big Cat Library - https://collins.co.uk/pages/big-cat-ebooks

Oxford Owl invites parents and carers to register with their website and then allows access to a huge library of ebooks which are all part of the reading schemes that we have at school.  If you select your child's stage or colour of book band, the website then shows you a  selection of appropriate ebooks for that level.  Again please email your class teacher if you need guidance for the appropriate stage for your child. Here is the link: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

Outdoor Learning

Hooray! A morning with sunshine today! Perhaps today you could have a go at a sunshine activity and then a rain activity when it arrives again later on?

Experiment with weather

6. Wind toys

Make the most of windy days by installing windsocks, wind chimes or pinwheels in your outdoor space; you could make them with the children using a variety of materials.

7. Rainy day exploration

With the right resources, for example sets of good waterproofs, you can really embrace rainy weather. Buy or make some rain gauges, and monitor the rainfall. Mud kitchens are always very popular, and will provide hours of hands-on entertainment.

8. Sun/shadow prints

If the sunny weather returns (or even this could be done inside with a lamp or torch) you could make shadows and draw around them. You could make a collage of interesting natural shapes, eg grasses, petals, leaves, cones.

Happy 100th Birthday Captain Tom!

Today is a special day for Captain Tom Moore who I'm sure you have all seen on the news recently. Part of the Early Years Curriculum means that children learn about birthdays and celebrations so today would be the perfect opportunity to do this. Some ideas are:

-Make a birthday card for Captain Tom.

-Write a party invitation for a special 100th birthday party.

-Design a birthday cake for Captain Tom's 100th birthday (I wonder who has this special job?!)

-Join in with the clapping for the NHS at 8pm and dedicate your clapping to Captain Tom.

Please feel free to share with me any of the activities that you do today- and if you think of anything different I would love to hear about them! If you'd like to be in the photos that's wonderful, send them over to the CLASS R email and I will have a look :-)

We all have lots of worries at the moment and it is a difficult time for children and adults. Here are some suggestions to help you feel better. This week, the activities focus on yoga.

Yoga:

Yoga is a very old form of exercise. The main parts of yoga are poses (movements which increase strength and flexibility) and breathing.

The practice began in India about 5,000 years ago and has been adapted in other countries in lots of ways. Yoga helps you feel calm, strong and mindful. It helps strengthen your bones and muscles, makes you more flexible, helps you relax and makes you feel amazing!

For Reception the Cosmic Kids Yoga app has lots of brilliant videos, many linked with stories and songs. There is a Youtube video but it does not feature the full length video, the app is free to download. Choose one a day to follow and please remember to make sure you have a safe space for yoga.

OUTDOOR LEARNING

Now that the weather has dampened and cooled here are some activities that you could do to learn about the weather over the next few days. Fingers crossed the sunshine will return soon!

Experiment with weather

6. Wind toys

Make the most of windy days by installing windsocks, wind chimes or pinwheels in your outdoor space; you could make them with the children using a variety of materials.

Thank you as always for your continued support.

We have been very fortunate so far to have had such lovely weather outside. Although it is cooling this week and we may see some rain there are some things that you can still do outdoors whilst it's dry (and some when it is wet!). Here are a few ideas for the next few days...

Engage with wildlife

There are lots of ways in which you can encourage wildlife into your garden and support the children to engage with it. Here are some resource ideas:

1. Bug hotel

Buy a purpose-built bug hotel, or make your own (eg using recycled packaging) to provide a suitable habitat for a variety of insects.

2. Bug hunt

Invest in a set of magnifying glasses/jars so that the children can study the insects in the bug hotel or other habitats in your outside space (in the grass, under bushes, in a log pile).

3. Bird table/feeders

Hang bird feeders (bought or home-made), and/or install a bird table to encourage birds into the garden; help the children identify and count different species. There are lots of bird spotting guides on the RSPB website.

4. Ant farm

Buy or make an ant farm; these are a great way to engage children’s interest in wildlife and animal behaviour.

5. Wormery

Similarly, you can buy a wormery kit or make your own (a good activity to involve the children in); soil and worms are a winning combination for most children.

Thank you as always for your continued support.

Mia has been hosting a special (at home!) party with her brother and wrote invitations for her family. She has also been exploring wildlife and spotted a grass snake and some tadpoles! Wonderful outdoor learning. Mia has also had some brand new books to share at home and I think it's safe to day Mia's dog enjoyed the story time! Georgia has been practising her Letters and Sounds tricky words and can now read and write lots of them- well done! Georgia's mummy says that she is also enjoying maths learning at home and lots of crafting! .

THANK YOU KEY WORKERS!

I'm sure many of you will have been joining in the weekly celebration of clapping for our heroes and here we find ourselves again! Today I thought it would be lovely if the children wanted to complete some colouring sheets for key workers to say thank you. Find them here:

We all have lots of worries at the moment and it is a difficult time for children and adults. Here are some suggestions to help you feel better. This week, the activities focus on yoga.

Earth Day - 22nd April 2020

Today is Earth Day - Earth day is celebrated every April 22nd; more than a billion people celebrate Earth Day to protect the planet from things like pollution and deforestation. This year, Earth Day is being celebrated differently all over the world as we all protect one another from a virus by staying home - perhaps now more than ever, we can all think about how to make our world a happier, healthier place to live for all of the plants and animals on Earth.

Here are a few resources to enjoy, which celebrate Earth's splendour, as well as explain all about Earth Day:

EYFS Support for Home Learning

Hi everyone,

I hope that Class R are all keeping well and safe, we are missing you all very much!

The BBC have produced some guidance and activities for learning at home. At the moment it is still very much up to you how you structure the learning but please do contact me if you would like any advice :-) I would suggest having a look through the resources first and then choosing some to focus on each day.

Here are the links to the resources:

There is a section of BBC Class Clips, each with suggestions for children's learning and some also include links to twinkl resources to coincide with the videos.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/early-years-teaching-resources/zhhf92p

The next section is called 'Tiny Happy People' with activities specifically designed to be carried out at home. Each activity has a video demonstration.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/tiny-happy-people/4-to-5-year-old-child-development-activities

I will update shortly on some more ideas and suggestions for learning. Please don't forget you can send in any photographs of children's learning and work! I would love to see it :-)

Take care and stay safe!

Coronavirus - Summer Term Letter

Monday 20th April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you all had a restful Easter break and welcome to our very first remote summer term!

We’ve all had to adapt to new ways of working, so I wanted to take the opportunity to say what an amazing job you’re doing supporting your child’s wellbeing and learning during this time.

It’s definitely been a strange and challenging time, so it’s okay if you and your child feel a little apprehensive at the moment and have lots of questions. We’re here for you every step of the way as we figure this all out together. Remember, if you have any concerns about helping your child learn or you need any other support from the school, please let us know by emailing our home learning address: homelearning@richardson.derbyshire.sch.uk

We are moving to change this email to be class specific and will inform you via text message of the new addresses when we have done so.

We miss the children very much, but we must continue to follow the government’s guidance to keep everyone in our community safe. So, we’re carrying on with our school remaining open for vulnerable pupils and those parents, whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response. However it remains important, for your child’s own safety, that every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.  For most pupils, this means continuing with their learning at home.

Just because we’re not all in the same building, doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun learning together! Your children will have lots of activities they can enjoy over the summer term – so keep a close eye on the school website and your child's class page:

We also love seeing the children’s fantastic learning at home – please keep sending their work in via email, so this can be shared with their class teacher.

We are unable to say when we’ll be able to open the school fully and continue to be led by the Department for Education’s advice and guidance. Rest assured that we’ll continue doing our utmost to keep your child learning and our school community connected.

Warm regards,

Mrs K Mason

Headteacher

Monday 20th April - Home Learning - Daily Newsletter

Welcome Back

Good morning! We hope you have had a restful time with your loved ones over the Easter break.

During the last two weeks, several groups have developed home learning resources. We are now encouraging all parents to use the package the BBC is providing through the Bitesize website. We encourage you to access this through the daily post on your child's class page as we will still use these to post important information, resources, share messages from teachers and share any work you send in to us.

Bitesize - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

This website covers a daily input of Maths, English and a wider topic. Each of these contains teaching, activities, games, work and more with familiar faces for children. These will take the place of our daily packs.

For those struggling with internet or computer access the BBC is also providing daily lessons through the red button on your TV remote (also available on iplayer), please be aware the topics covered in these do not match up with the Bitesize daily planning. The schedule for these televised lessons is included below. Each of these programmes are 20 minutes in length and are available at 9:00am each day.

Contact

We are continuing to use the homelearning@richardson.derbyshire.sch.uk email to answer any questions you may have regarding home learning and to give children input on their work. We are moving to change this email to be class specific and will inform you of the new addresses when we have done so.

We're All In This Together!

We hope you've all had a lovely Easter break and eaten lots of chocolate. Stay safe xx

Home Learning – Easter Holiday

Today sees the start of the Easter Holiday, with this in mind we are taking a break from our regular daily posts, these will resume on Monday 20th April.

It has been wonderful to see so many children and parents engaging with learning over the past few weeks. The children have worked hard during this term both in and out of school and are ready for a break. During the next two weeks, we encourage you to give your children as much of a ‘holiday’ as possible. To help with this here are a number of ideas:

During this time please continue to use homelearning@richardson.derbyshire.sch.uk to stay in touch with any questions you may have or work/activities you would like to share. Finally, we wish you all the best and hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable Easter.

At the heart of the community

A beautiful display created by some of our children during a very challenging time. Our message to our Smalley community is to stay safe and well 🌈❤️

Good morning - it's Friday!

Good morning children - I hope you're ok and enjoying this beautiful sunshine that has been sent our way.  Thank you for keeping safe.

I was just having my morning cup of tea and this popped up on my newsfeed and it made me think of all of you and our special assemblies and singing time together; we worked so hard as a school on this song.  Until we're all back together again at school, I thought I'd share the link to Gary Barlow's Crooner session #8 so you can listen, share or sing.

See you all soon, speak to you sooner.

Love from Mrs Reckless :)

SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW - KEANE

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river, and it made me complete

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in

Friday 27th March 2020 - Year R Home Learning - Daily Newsletter

At school, we sometimes ask you to talk less in class but the good news is it’s super important that we talk lots at the moment!

Talk to your parents and relatives as talking is very important for good health. Ask trusted adults to help you understand what you see, hear or feel. You have our permission to chat … lots!

Or, you could draw how you feel or what you worry about and tell someone what your picture shows.

  Self Talk;

You could go outside in the lovely spring weather with some chalk and draw happy emoji faces on your drive or patio. Being in your garden is good for your wellbeing on its own so this would be a double dose of positivity!

Be Active!

Lots of people find that yoga helps to be mindful and feel better. Here are some Early Years friendly yoga poses to have a go at. You can either find a safe space indoors on a soft floor or you could do them outside on a blanket or mat.

Thursday 26th March 2020 - Year R Home Learning - Daily Newsletter

At school we would usually be learning lots about the seasons as we pass through them. Here are some activities that you could start today to focus learning around 'Spring'.

Have a go at writing about what we see in Spring. Feel free to send in photos of your writing- I would love to see it! :-)

We began learning about addition during the Spring 1 Term- here is an activity sheet to practise addition to 20.

Year R Home Learning

Please check your child's class page on the website for more ideas, resources and learning. If you have any questions or need any support with learning at home please contact homelearning@richardson.derbyshire.sch.uk

Learning in the EYFS should always be practical. Please be advised that whilst at school children receive a variety of types of learning whether that be one-to-one, group work, play based or direct input. Please have a look through some learning ideas and choose a few for each day. Children will benefit from reading at home and talking! The power of conversation is something not to be devalued- during any practical activity, use as much language as you can to continue to develop children's vocabulary. Last of all, have fun! :-)

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Keeping Fit at Home.

To try to provide a chance for students to stay active at home, Amber Valley School Sports Partnership are opening up access to our DTF Fitness resource FREE of charge to all students and schools.

This includes hundreds of activity cards, fitness challenges and work-out ideas to help keep our children active, engaged and occupied during their time away from the regular curriculum.

To access the resources simply click the link below:

https://pe-coordinator.co.uk/home-fitness/

Activity cards are labelled with a recommended age group starting with Fun Fitness (Rec, Y1, Y2), Fitness Friends (Y3, Y4) and Personal Best (Y5, Y6).

All the activities require basic or limited equipment and can be done in a small space within most households.

Early Easter treat

Thank you Mrs Drury for baking Easter Krispie cakes for us. We enjoyed them for our snack- they were delicious.

Hand washing at its best!

Happy Class R children reminding us of the importance of hand washing.

School Packs

Please find the links below to the packs of work, which were distributed to the children in school yesterday:

Further activities will be made available in due course.

Please be advised that for those pupils, who did not receive the pack yesterday, a paper version will be posted out to you.

Movement to music in Class R

Today Class R have been using their listening ears and changed the way they move to match the music they could hear. We expressed the feelings felt through the music by using ribbon wands.

First of all we practised our ribbon and body movements and when we were ready we applied it whilst listening to Four Seasons by the composer Vivaldi. We also finished our session with responding to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

The children performed beautifully and listened so carefully to the change in tempo, volume and timbre in the pieces of music.

"Olympic Trail" taster morning

On Friday morning this week, several of our classes were able to sample a variety of Olympic sports, delivered by one of our sports club providers, Premier Sports.

To celebrate this year's Games, to be held this summer in Tokyo, the children got the chance to take part in Boccia, Fencing, Archery and Athletics and enjoy something different to our usual school sports. Definitely some potential athletes for the future!

What a week in Class R!

Class R library visit for Book Week

This morning Class R had a wonderful time visiting Heanor Library. We were welcomed by Kathy who is a children's librarian. Kathy told us some information about the library and how it works. She then read us 3 of her favourite books. After this we all had chance to explore the library and see what kinds of books you can borrow. We had some library time looking through the wonderful books and finally finished our visit with choosing a book each to borrow. The children demonstrated respectful and considerate behaviour the whole time we were at the library and handled the books with care, well done Class R.

We do hope that you will visit the library again and choose some more books to take home 😃

Library time

Class R at the library for Book Week!

Keeping Healthy

Mrs Mason did a whole school assembly on the importance of hand washing. The children were taught to wash their hands effectively using soap and water. It was stressed that hand washing should last for 20 seconds- the children sang 'Happy Birthday to you' as they did it as the song lasts 20 seconds. Elizabeth and Oliver modelled this. At school we are always thinking of ways and reinforcing ways to keep healthy. Happy hand washing!

Pop-up Library - Reception

A big thank you to everyone who took part in our pop-up library this morning. It was lovely to see so many people, both adults and children alike, sharing the love of reading. If you were not able to make it please have a look in your child's book bag for some extra reading resources!

Robots!

Class R have been very busy learning about Robots!

In English we have been reading Harry and the Robots' and focusing our writing on labelling a robot. In Music Mrs Evans taught us a robot song and dance. In Science we made balancing robots with Mrs Foston.

Take a look at our learning journey for the week.

Smalley's Pop-up Library

Smalley Library is ready for readers. The library is open for parents, carers and children from 8.50 through to 9.20.

Monday - Reception

Tuesday - Class 1 and 2

Amazing addition!

Class R have done some amazing addition this week! They have been practising their adding in different ways by adding toppings on pancakes, items on a shopping list and passengers on a bus. Vocabulary we have been using is add, adding, makes, equals and altogether.

Teach Your Monster to Read - Free Phonics App!

The Department for Education has recommended a list of apps to aid children's learning during Reception and KS1. To celebrate being included on this list one of the providers of these applications has made their app free on ipad, iphone and android device. This is a limited offer until the Friday 28th February. Tomorrow!

Click here for ipads and iphones

Our learning journey in EYFS

Class R have been very busy this year in learning about their own learning journey. Each week we display what we have learnt on our learning journey (Class R parents may have noticed this through our windows!)

The children are so proud to share with people what they are learning and have already been referring to the journey throughout the week.

Here is our journey from last week (week ending 8th November)

Pumpkin Parade 2019

Thank you to everyone who enjoyed this years Pumpkin Parade. Despite the rain, we still had a busy hall full of children, parents and carers looking at the wonderful creations and enjoying hot chocolate and cookies.

Well done to all children who entered the competition and a special mention for the 3 winning pumpkins. It was very tricky to choose!

Thank you to the PTFA for organising and running another fabulous event!

‘Souper’ chefs

As part of our Autumn topic Class R made their very own soup! We had to chop, slice, cut and peel lots of different vegetables (6 to be exact!)

We then put the vegetables into a soup maker with some water and a few other ingredients to cook and blend, ready for us to enjoy.

After making and trying our soup, which most of us loved, we wrote about it in our writing books.

Can you remember what vegetables we used?

It's raining it's pouring

Class R had five minutes of fun out in the rain today.

300 mugs on tour!

And they’re off to The Padley Centre - jingle jangling all the way!

UPDATE

and they’ve arrived - all ready to be used for lunch. Thank you everyone for your kind harvest gift - together we’ll make a real difference.

Harvest thanks and final total

Thank you so much to everyone involved in our Harvest assembly today - what great TEAMWORK! Together, everyone gave a valued contribution which shared our special Harvest message of thanks, working together and thinking of others.

Thank you for all of the kind donations of spare mugs which will head towards The Padley Centre in the next few days; luckily our assembly was 'smashing' for many reasons and not because of broken mugs!

MONDAY - 299 mugs + one more from Mrs Mason = 300 mugs to donate!

We are thrilled to announce that 300 mugs will be heading towards The Padley Centre this week - that's a whole days worth of hot drink containers for the homeless people of Derby - thank you.

Please help us and name all of your child’s uniform.

We have an abundance of unnamed uniform in our lost property box already. Please help us to return it to the rightful owner by naming all uniform with permanent pen or name labels. Thank you.

Looking for signs of Autumn

Class R had a wonderful Autumnal walk today looking for signs that Autumn is here. We put our coats and wellington boots on and headed outside. We saw the changing leaves and fallen leaves, some conkers, acorns, berries and some interesting fungi. We collected the leaves and things that were safe, but took photos of the berries and fungi as we knew not to touch them. We noticed that the field was very wet with morning dew and as we were walking we were leaving a trail! Last of all we had a race across the field back and left lots and lots of footprints. Well done Class R, a super day starting our next 2 weeks of Autumn learning.

Blue Peter Success

How wonderful to catch up with Theo and find out about his continuing Blue Peter badge collection. Here are the badges that were awarded for Theo's tennis playing and also for his cake baking to commemorate the Blue Peter tortoise retiring from the show.  Thank you for sharing Theo - which one will be next?  Toby told me that he is busy working towards his first Blue Peter badge too -   can't wait to see it Toby!

The leg bone’s connected to the...

Class R have been having lots of fun learning about ourselves! We have read the story Funnybones and learnt about different parts of our bodies. Here is a picture of our fantastic work displayed in our classroom. The straw skeletons have been carefully made with some very fiddly pieces and lots of sticky fingers! Well done children 😊😀

We’ve also been learning a song all about bones!

You can find it here:

The Skeleton Dance

Get the Super Simple App for iOS! ► http://apple.co/2nW5hPd A super simple song for learning parts of the body. Great for Halloween, or anytime of the year...

Can you guess who’s who?

First day at school!

Here are some photos from our first day in Class R. We had a lovely day and enjoyed meeting all of you again!
