Pupil Premium

What is it?

The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Why has it been introduced?

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. Other groups that may also be able to access Pupil Premium are children who have been Looked After (LAC) and children of Service Personnel. Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium.

Pupil Premium Strategy Statement

Here is our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement for 2022-2025.

Financial year 2020 to 2021

In the 2020 to 2021 financial year, schools will receive the following funding for each child recorded as Ever 6 free school meals (FSM):

  • £1,345 for pupils in reception year to year 6
  • £955 for pupils in year 7 to year 11

£310 per service family pupil

Schools will also receive £2,345 for each pupil who has left local authority-care because of 1 of the following:

  • adoption
  • a special guardianship order
  • a child arrangements order
  • a residence order

If a pupil has been registered as eligible for free school meals and has also left local-authority care for any of the reasons above, they will attract the £2,345 rate.

Children who have been in local-authority care for 1 day or more also attract £2,345 of pupil premium funding. Funding for these pupils doesn’t go to their school; it goes to the virtual school head (VSH) in the local authority that looks after the child. VSHs are responsible for managing pupil premium funding for looked-after children.

For the Financial Year 2020 - 2021 our school will receive £26900 of Pupil Premium funding.

The percentage of our pupils known to be eligible for pupil premium funding is 11%.

Our Funding 2019 to 2020

For the financial year 2019 - 2020 our school received £23760.

During 2019 - 2020, we used the Pupil Premium as follows:

  • Additional Teaching Assistant hours to work on a personalised basis with children eligible for Pupil Premium or Ever 6 Funding.
  • Additional teaching time from an outstanding teacher.
  • Funding for X1 school club per term for children who are eligible for Pupil Premium or Ever 6 funding.
  • Funding for X1 class visit per year.
  • Funding for instrumental tuition which will be arranged by the school.
