PTFA

What is a parent teachers friends association?

Many schools have a parent teachers and friends association also known as a PTFA, which is a group of parents/carers, teachers/staff and associated people.

Its aim is to create and maintain links between home and school as well as fundraising and organising events giving us all the opportunity to get together.

How does PTFA raise its money?

We raise money through events all year round, as well as working closely with the school and their events.

We are always looking for new fundraising ideas and we welcome you to contact us on our email address

Donations are gratefully received and these don't need to be linked to any specific event; they can be pre loved uniform or items we can use in our raffles.

What does the PTFA spend the money on?

All the funds raised by the PTFA are there to provide extras which enhance the school; often these are things that make learning that little bit more fun and exciting.

The PTFA committee decides how this money is spent following requests that are made by the school.

Would you like to join or just help out your PTFA?

There are so many different ways you can help out your school's PTFA - some roles are time consuming but rewarding and some are less frequent and just a helping hand whenever you have some spare time like running a stall or baking some cakes.

Don't forget just donating prizes for raffles or competitions is a big help!

The best way to support your schoo'ls PTFA is by simply turning up.

Who is a part of the PTFA for Richardson Endowed Primary School?

Chair person :- Jemma Hall

Treasurer :- Sara Johnson

Secretary:- Leah Flint & Helen Denman

Other members :- Clare Hollis, Jayne Merriman, Danielle Murphy, Kamil Baczkowicz, Leanne Steed, Mariel Kisuka, Emma Hill.

If you would like to attend a meeting to discuss or find out ways you can help then please contact us on our email address.

You can contact us via our Facebook page too… www.facebook.com/richardsonendowedschoolptfa.

Our school Summer Fayre

What a wonderful day was had by all at our school Summer Fayre ! Thank you to those of you who attended.

Thank you to the children who sang so beautifully to open the fayre, to the parents, grandparents, family and friends of the school who spent lots of money and to the staff who gave up their Saturday and supported our children as always.

The PTFA have worked so hard to make it all happen led by Mrs Ufton our PTFA chairperson. Without the PTFA to raise funds the children would miss out on so many wonderful resources. We are delighted that the PTFA raised over £1300 yesterday which is a huge reward for all their  time and effort and we are extremely grateful to them .

As you know our  core beliefs of  Embark Federation are : Family, Integrity, Teamwork and Success - all 4 were definitely clear to see at our Summer Fayre-Thank you everyone for playing your part.

The smiles on the children’s faces were a pleasure for all to see !

Carol singing at Tesco!

We have had another fabulous day and it was a real privilege to go to Tesco Carol singing with performance club this afternoon.

They sang a range of carols for an hour and it sounded beautiful. We had so many lovely comments from shoppers and managed to raise £115.

Huge thanks to Mrs Mason and Mr Redgrave for playing the keyboard and leading the singing. Also, thank you to Mrs Hull for her support in organising the children and of course her singing!

Thank you to our PTFA, parents and grandparents for supporting this visit out of school.

It has certainly helped me get into the Christmas spirit children, thank you!

Introducing...

After reading through hundreds of name ideas, we have finally decided on 6 names for our new school chickens.

Introducing: Mavis, Matilda, Betty, Blossom, Goldie and Gracie!

I'll name that chicken in 1!

We have had a fabulous first week back at school and so have our new arrivals!

The children arrived back this week to the surprise of seeing that we are now the home to six new chickens.

They have settled very quickly and are already laying eggs.

It has been lovely to see children, staff, parents and grandparents go over to the chickens and meet them over the course of the week.

A huge thank you to the team that gave up their holidays to ensure the chickens have a fabulous new home.

Also, thank you to the PTFA for providing the funding for this.

They have been an instant hit!

The children were set a challenge by Miss Tulley today to name the chickens.

The names will be announced in due course alongside a picture so we can all call them by name!

What a brilliant start to the new year! Enjoy some pictures below!

Thank you all for supporting the Summer Fayre on Saturday. The rain just about stayed away!

Christmas disco!

Great fun was had at the Christmas disco - thank you so much to our valued members of the PTFA for organising and running the event.

Smalley will always remember.

On Wednesday we held our annual Remembrance service which as always was led by our Year 6 children.

Members of our whole community attended the service including parents, grandparents, governors, ptfa, the Church, Parish Council, Smalley Old Boys and neighbours from the village. It was the best attendance we have ever had and lovely to see so many people there.

The children were amazing, especially our year 6 and what stood out was the respect that they displayed as they led the service with such confidence.

Everyone commented on how moving the service was which brought many to tears.

It was completed as is tradition at the memorial in our car park where children laid wreaths kindly with the chairman of Smalley Old Boys kindly donated by them and the Parish Council to remember those who died in the war that attended our school. We were very lucky to have such a talented professional musician, Phil Reckless, join is to play the last post and during some of our hymns.

This is one of our finest traditions here at Smalley and our year 6 children did us proud, set the bar high and have now passed the baton on to our year 5 class ready for next year.

I hope it continues to go from strength to strength for many years and that one day I will be invited back as a Smalley Old Boy!

Thank you children for leading the service so well.

It's official.........our classroom is open!

Before Christmas we had a very special day here in school when we officially opened our new classroom. The classroom was opened by the Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Kevin Gillott and Ian Thomas, the Director of Children Services for Derbyshire.

It was also lovely to welcome back the project manager Dee Hill and Kev Walker who was Team Leader throughout the duration of the build. We had a lovely assembly and were joined by Governors, members of the PTFA and parents who help in school.

It has been in all the local papers over Christmas, an example of the write up can be found by following the link below:

http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/council/news_events/news-updates/2014/december/celebrations_as_new_classroom_officially_opens.asp

The official photos from the day can also be found below.

Christmas Catols at Asda 2014!

I had the pleasure of accompanying our choir this morning to Asda. They performed a number of carols for an hour and at the last count had raised over £150!

You could hear their wonderful singing the other side of the store and even the ladies on the bakery counter were joining in!

A massive thank you to our wonderful staff; Mrs Mason, Miss Hill, Mrs Walton and Mrs Evans for their hard work and skill.

Also, thank you to the PTFA, parents and grandparents for your support.

Finally, a huge thank you to our talented children for entertaining the community this morning and getting everyone in the Christmas spirit.

PTFA Christmas Fayre 2014

Everyone is now in the festive spirit at Smalley after a fabulous Christmas Fayre.

There was a fabulous buzz in the hall and such an amazing turnout from our community. Thank you!

We even had a visit from Father Christmas!

A huge thank you to our wonderful PTFA for all their hard work and preparation to put on such a brilliant event. We are very lucky.

We will let you know the final amount raised as soon as we have it. Enjoy the weekend.

Christmas Fayre 2014!

A reminder that our Christmas Fayre is nearly upon us. It will be held in the school hall on Friday 28th November at the end of the school day. This is always a fabulous event and the money raised has helped to buy some amazing resources for your children over recent years.

There will be lots of brilliant stalls and a visit hopefully from Father Christmas too!

Please come and support, I look forward to seeing you there.

A massive thank you to our PTFA. They are so dedicated and work so hard to put on these events for our school. We really do appreciate it.

Christmas Cards are ready!

Please see message below with details of how to view and purchase your child's Christmas card. Thank you.

Your children’s artwork has been uploaded to the web site and is ready for ordering. Every effort has been made to correctly read and type the children’s names but inevitably there will be one or two that require amendment. Good news ! This year, parents can amend their children’s names at the point of order so you don’t have to worry if a name has been misread – they can change it !

Please go to www.mychildsart.co.uk

Here are your schools login details which are the same for every parent at your school and match the leaflets & emailable jpeg sent to you.

Enjoy these final pictures below.

Shared Vision 2014-15 - more pictures!

More pictures from a fabulous event.

Shared Vision 2014-15

Our annual Shared Vision evening was held in school on Wednesday. All stakeholders were represented including; staff, pupils, parents, governors, members from the parish council and others from our school community. The School Council and PTFA were represented.

This year IanThomas, Strategic Director for Derbyshire County Council and our Senior Adviser, Carolyn Brearley also kindly gave up their time to be involved.

It was a wonderful event and was very skilfully led by our Chair of Governors, Sarah Armitage.

We celebrated successes from the previous year before looking at how we can 'stand out' as a school as we look to become an 'outstanding school at the heart of the community.'

We looked at what made us special as a school before looking ahead to what was positive and possible to achieve this year.

There were a number of good ideas including;

1. Using our new technology to enhance teaching and learning.
2. Improving learning environments inside and outside the school.
3. Improve resources across the school ready for inspirational learning.
4. Transform the hall so it is a vibrant, special place and the hub of the school.

This is our fourth Shared Vision session and it is wonderful to see how far we have come as a school since September 2011.

We were also very lucky to have talented artists Anthony Greentree and Lucy Truman who captured the event through drawings which will be brought to life around the school.....watch this space!

A massive thank you to all involved.

Enjoy some pictures below, more to follow.

Sports Day fun at Smalley

We had lots of fun last week at our annual sports day.

Children worked in their house teams and completed a wide range of events earning points.

This year there was a World Cup theme and Brazilian music was playing all afternoon whilst each team also adopted a country from this years tournament.

The winning house this year was Falcons.

Thank you to the PTFA for organising drinks for the children. Thank you also to all the parents for a wonderful turnout as usual to support our children.

A huge thank you to Mrs Naylor from Open Gate and her team of Sports Leaders, many of whom were ex Smalley Pupils.

Finally, a massive thank you to Mrs Shaw for organising the event. We really appreciate all the hard work that has gone into putting on an event like this.

Raffle Prize List - Summer Fayre 2014

Summer Fayre 2014

More photos from the Summer Fayre of the Hotshots, hook a duck and the brilliant storm trooper that joined us! A huge thank you again to all!

Summer Fayre 2014

Summer Fayre 2014 was a brilliant success and what fabulous weather we had.

The children did a fabulous job of opening the Fayre with their beautiful singing. The crowd of parents, grandparents and friends were about five deep. How wonderful for the event to be so well supported as usual.

There was a range of fabulous stalls as usual, the cakes for example were gorgeous and sold out within an hour.

Also, our year 5 children raised over £50 with their loom bands stall!

The staff manned the BBQ and refreshments, the BBQ was definitely busier than Mcdonalds with queues stretching the length of the playground! A huge thank you to all the staff that attended.

Hot House jazz band the 'Smalley Hotshots' then entertained us with a stunning performance of a number of well known tracks.

Finally, a massive £1354.83 was raised which is a stunning amount. This will be spent wisely to improve resources for children in our school. Therefore, I would like to say a huge thank you to all involved, especially the PTFA who have given up their time to plan, organise and put on such a great event.

More photos to follow!

Singing al fresco - wow!

It was a real pleasure today to go outside at playtime as the children were singing beautifully ready to open the Summer Fayre this Saturday.

I could have sat and listened to them all day and it is no surprise that the sun has come out this afternoon!

If you get the opportunity please do not pass up the chance to hear the lovely singing this Saturday! They will open the Summer Fayre at 12:00 noon.

I think it may be a good idea to have singing outside every day Mrs Mason?

Beautiful children, it made my day. thank you.

Smalley Art Exhibition

We had an amazing end to our day in school with our Art Exhibition organised by the PTFA. The Art work was stunning, thanks to the hard work and talent of our children and staff. Our hall looked beautiful. A massive thank you to the Teaching Assistants for displaying the work in such a way.

A huge Thank You to the PTFA for all their hard work in organising such a wonderful event. The cakes were gorgeous as always, the chocolate tombola went down a treat as did the much needed refreshments.

See the video below of the highlights. The total will follow on this page. All the funds raised this year will go towards new ICT equipment including laptops or iPads for the school.

A Mile for Eddy - Run a Mile Make Eddy Smile.

It was the children's turn on Friday to complete a mile for Eddy as part of our fundraising for Eddy in our Reception Class. The weather was a bit grey but it was all smiles at our school as the fancy dress costumes were fantastic and the spirit and determination the children showed was a joy to witness.

Thank you to those that braved the cold and it was good to see Mr. Hopwell and Mr. Chadwick back running with their inflatable horses! Thank you to the PTFA for making refreshments too.

Each class completed the mile and had fun at the same time. The children have learned a lot from our Mile for Eddy campaign and the main message that has come across is that we care for each other here at Smalley and look out for each other in times of trouble. We really do believe we are like a big family and the whole community has worked together beautifully for Team Eddy.

Our Team page can be found using the following link.

Watch the video below to see some highlights of the event.

The Giving Machine

Dear parent, grandparent, friends and teachers,

Did you know that every time you shop online the school can receive a donation?  Register at www.thegivingmachine.co.uk and every purchase you make online from over 400 of your favourite shops will benefit the school. you just have to go to their website via the giving machine - it takes seconds I promise! You pay the same. Instead of the shop paying for google ad's etc they pay a commission to the giving machine and they pass it on to us. There are NO catches. This will really help in our efforts to provide new ICT equipment for the school.  Thank-You PTFA.

Watch out for updates on how the money will be spent on the latest ICT equipment this year.

Creating a Shared Vision 2012-13

Representatives from the whole community came together in school on the 27th September to create our Shared Vision for this year. All staff, parents from our Parent Champion Group and PTFA, governors and children worked together to look at areas we can improve over the next 12 months.

We also looked back at our successes and were able to celebrate a huge list of achievements. After that we looked at what would be positive and possible to achieve this year. All stakeholders signed up to the vision and plotted actions and next steps.

We are firm believers here in school that working together as a team and sharing our skills and abilities will help us achieve our aim to be an 'Outstanding School at the heart of the community'.

A massive thank you to Sarah Armitage for her skill in leading the session and keeping us all on task, not an easy job!!

Have a look at the pictures below from a fantastic evening.

Summer Fayre - what an amazing day!

We had an amazing summer fayre on Saturday with a bumper turnout at school. The sun was shining and thanks to the hard work of the PTFA we had a wide range of stalls including fun games such as 'hook a duck', beautiful luxury cakes, other firms that had come to join us and music playing with an outside disco. On the field was an inflatable slide and the races which were kindly organised by Smalley Lawn Tennis Club. The Clown entertained all the children with his balloon making skills and our staff were kept very busy on the barbecue and refreshments.

A massive thank you to all the PTFA and parents that helped to support this event. It raises valuable money for resources for the school and we are so grateful. Thanks also to Smalley Lawn Tennis Club for doing such a good job with the races. A Big Thank you to all those that turned up to support the event or sold raffle tickets, without you there would be no Summer Fayre. The PTFA will let everyone know how much was raised and what the final total was.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Fayre although I don't want to see a sausage or bacon cob for a while!! I look forward to seeing you all at the next event. Enjoy the video below with some highlights!

S.O.S

Our Summer Fete is fast approaching and we desperately need more bottles, sweets and new/good quality toys for our tombola. Please bring them into school as soon as possible ideally before Thursday of this week.

Raffle tickets have also been sent out with the children, each family has been given a book of 10, they can be sold to friends, family or work colleagues - if every family sold their 10 tickets it would be a fantastic £1600 start before the fete even opened.

Hope you can make it to the fete on Saturday, we look forward to seeing you.

Pitches available at our Summer Fete

If you have a business or know a business that would like a stall at our Summer Fete on Saturday 26th May for only £10 please get in touch at jaynealdred@sky.com or contact the PTFA via school.

CAN YOU HELP

Our summer fete is fast approaching and we need to think about raffle prizes.  Do you have any unwanted wicker baskets of any size which we can use to make gift hampers.  If you can help please send them into school as soon as possible.

2012 at Richardson Smalley...

Happy New Year to you all. A reminder that school starts tomorrow Wednesday 4th January. I look forward to working with you all in 2012; children, staff, parents and the whole community. If we all continue to work together as a team then 2012 promises to be a fantastic year at Richardson Smalley.

There are a number of ways parents can get involved with the school. The PTFA is incredibly strong at the school and organises a number of events through the year. We are a friendly bunch and always welcome new members.

Our Parent Champion group has also become a strength of the school in a short space of time. The group meets half termly and organises non-fundraising events to support the school such as the Wonderful Website Workshop enjoyed before Christmas. It is also a group that will be used for advice on a number of issues and will support school improvement. Anyone is welcome at the meetings and you will always get a warm welcome.

Feel free to chat to me about any of these at the gates or if you think you can support the school in any way. Thank you for all your help and support in giving the children at our school the very best education.

Christmas Disco Tuesday 20th

Time to get out your dancing shoes and show those moves on the dance floor. Key Stage 1 disco 6 - 7 and Key Stage 2 7.15 - 8.30pm.
Come and join Gazza for fun and games and get in the mood for christmas.

Next PTFA Meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 31st January at 7pm in the top school.

Over the past few months the PTFA decided to concentrate on funding new technology in school to benefit both pupils and parents this has included the fantastic new website and the now invaluable text messaging service, and voice recorders in each class.

All fundraising is used to benefit the children of Smalley School often providing items and treats that the school could not otherwise afford and if you would like to have a say on how the PTFA budget is used to help the school, please come along to our meetings and have a voice, we will be very pleased to see you.

Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you in 2012

PTFA AGM & Next Meeting Tuesday 20th September at 7pm

Over the past academic year the PTFA have raised in excess of £8000 this has enabled us to purchase Reading Books, Numeracy Equipment, Raised Flower Beds, Gardening Equipment, Pantomime Buses but most recently the outside shelter, which you can see in the playground, this will be used as an outside class room and can be used by the children during play times as a quiet area to sit with friends. The PTFA provides extras like this that the school would otherwise not be able to afford.

Our committee is made up of parents and teachers, lots of our group have children who are growing up and we are always looking for new and willing members especially parents with younger children in years 1, 2 and particularly reception. Our meetings are open to everyone and you are all welcome, we won’t pounce on you if come to a meeting and you do not have to take on a main role. If all you want to do is offer an extra pair of hands at a fund raising event then that’s fine we welcome all offers of help.

Our AGM is will be held on September 20th at 7pm and our regular PTFA meeting will be afterwards so please do come along.

The rewards and the new friendships which come out of the PTFA more than make up for the hard work, but more than anything this is your chance to put something back into your child's school.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
