Following on from 'The Day the Crayons Quit' we have been reading 'The Day the Crayons Came Home.'

The Day the Crayons Came Home - Animated Read Aloud

If you enjoyed this video please consider donating to our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/StoryTimeOutLoud The Day the Crayons Came Home is the exciting sequel to the award-winning book, The Days the Crayons Quit! Author Drew Daywalt returns to tell more tales of crayons come to life in this wonderful book for both children and their parents.

Using the book as a stimulas, we thought about ways to keep our crayons and felt tips safe so they don't get lost. We decided to make felt tip containers and write a set of instructions to allow our friends to make one too. We looked at lots of different examples of instructions and identified the features we would need to include in our own writing: a title, a question, a you will need section and making sure our instructions were written in the right order. Finally we wrote a set of instructions ourselves. Great work Class 1!

Science 6.12.22

To link with our topic on materials and toys we completed an investigation, finding out about waterproof and not waterproof materials. Peppa Pig wears wellies to jump up and down in muddy puddles, but that doesn't stop her head getting wet. We investigated what might be a good material to use to make an umbrella for her.

Once we had found out that tissue paper and newspaper were not waterproof, and a plastic bag and cellophane were, one of our budding scientists wanted to know what would happen if we put cellophane over the top of the newspaper. We tried that too and discovered the cellophane protected the newspaper. What a great idea!

RE 5.12.22

This week we listened to the Christmas Story and drew pictures to show some of the key events in the story.

3D Shapes 28.11.22

We have been learning about 3D shapes. We started by playing 'Pass the Shape' - naming and sorting 3D shapes: cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere, pyramid and cone. Next, we looked for everyday 3D all around us and described them.

"The bin is a cylinder because it has a circle face at the top, a circle face at the bottom and a curved part."

"The train and benches are cuboids because we can see rectangle and square faces."

"I noticed my cup at lunchtime was like a cylinder."

Can you spot any 3D shapes around your house? How do you know which shape they are?

Can you name the 3D shapes?

Anti-bullying week 14th-18th November

To celebrate anti-bullying week, on Monday we kicked off by wearing our odd socks to celebrate everyone being different. The theme this year is 'Reach Out' and so during our PSHCE lesson we talked about ways could 'reach out' to our friends. We listened to the Diana Ross song 'Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand' and thought about how the lyrics could remind us that just a little act of kindness can make somebody's day.

We've moved!

We're back in our sparkly new classroom and enjoying doing lots of fun things. Hooray!

History

This half term we are learning about old and new toys. We have already started to explore some toys from the past and think about how these are different from our own favourite toys today.

Science

In our Science we are learning about materials. This week we went on a material hunt around our classroom and the school grounds. We made notes of the different materials we saw - wood, metal, glass, plastic and brick were just a few. Great spotting Class 1!
