RE
At Richardson Endowed Primary School, we believe that RE is important for developing pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural and social development. It is our intention that our RE curriculum promotes inquisitive minds in order to forge respect, tolerance and understanding of views, cultures and ways of life (both religious and non-religious) for all of those around them including themselves. Our RE curriculum intends to ensure our pupils have a breadth of knowledge and opportunities to explore faiths within their community and the wider world in order for them to form their own views and opinions and recognise its relevance in their own lives.
Key learning:
In Early Years, children begin to develop prerequisite skills for RE by accessing the specific area of learning – Understanding of the World -People, Culture and Communities. Children will know the similarities and differences between different religious and cultural communities in this country drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class. They recognise that children have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways. This is closely linked to the prime area Personal Social and Emotional Development – Building Relationships strand, thinking about the perspectives of others and showing sensitivity to their own and others needs.
In EYFS, this is implemented through:
Direct teaching – e.g Jigsaw, PSHE Matters
Visits
Visitors
Assemblies – whole school and class
Role play and small world
Stories and books
Music from other cultures
Festivals and celebrations

In Year 4 we are devising a presentation on What it means to be a Christian in Britain today. Here we are sharing our ideas.
